Johnson Branch

The Johnson Branch Unit is located on the north side of Lake Ray Roberts, which is a stunning 30,000-acre lake complex that provides every amenity and activity that you can think of. This park is a family destination, and it is close enough that you can visit for a day trip or plan an extended overnight stay if you need to get away from the hustle and bustle of daily life.  This park area is not as popular or typically as crowded as the Isle Du Bois Unit.

There are actually multiple park units located within the Ray Roberts State Park, and the Johnson Branch unit is one of the popular destinations for travelers and people visiting on a day trip. Located in northern Denton county, this area is within an hour drive from the Dallas area and it offer a serene place where you can get away from city life to enjoy the beautiful scenery.

Johnson Branch Amenities

The amenities in the Johnson Branch unit include 165 campsites, group pavilions, boat ramps, fishing, mountain biking trails, hiking, and more. It is a mix of a prairie environment and forest, providing you with the perfect location for any activity that you would like to enjoy.

Water recreational activities include swimming, sailing, personal watercraft, waterskiing, boating and fishing. You can easily get your boat in the water using the convenient ramp that is available.

One of the most popular areas is the beautiful swim beach area.  There is a huge beach with a very large swimming area located within a cove.  Many people come here to cook out and enjoy the beach for the day.

There are plenty of paved and unpaved trails for hiking and biking around the park.  You can take an entire day and explore all the park has to offer.

Camping

The camp sites are clean and shaded with beautiful trees, and you can enjoy these facilities for the day or stay for a few nights. Enjoy stunning views of the lake from your picnic table, and share these wonderful memories with family and friends. Because Johnson Branch Park is located on a peninsula, there are water views that face both west and east. Choose your location to watch the sunrise or sunset over the scenic lake.

Smaller campsites are perfect for intimate gatherings, or you can schedule a larger campsite and pavilion for bigger events and large group gatherings.

There are over 160 campsites to choose from.  Most of the campsites are heavily treed offering plenty of shade.  Many of the campsites offer up beautiful lake views.

The Johnson Branch Unit is not as crowded as Isle Du Bois.  This is mainly because it is on the north side of the lake and a little further from the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex.  This park is very nice and well worth the extra drive.  If you enjoy camping and the outdoors, the Johnson Branch Unit is the perfect place for you.  Enjoy!
